Benefits of Massage

Modern day therapeutic massage is an accepted modality in the rehabilitative process for musculoskeletal conditions such as low back pain or overuse injuries, systemic conditions such as high blood pressure or decreased immunity, and psychological conditions such as depression or anxiety.  Many who have experienced therapeutic massage will agree that it decreases stress levels in their body and mind and reduces tension, which can have a negative impact on health and quality of life over time.

Some of the proven benefits include the following:  Helps release muscular tension & pain, improves circulation, increases joint flexibility, reduces mental & physical fatigue & stress, promotes faster healing time of injured muscle tissue, improves posture, & reduces blood pressure.  Massage & bodywork has also been proven to promote better sleep, enhance concentration, reduce anxiety, & positively influence the body & mind with an overall sense of well-being.

Types of Massage & Bodywork

Deep Tissue Massage

This type of massage focuses on the deeper tissues of the body to relax, lengthen and release longstanding holding patterns. Moderate to deep pressure techniques are utilized including trigger point therapy to address specific health concerns.  This type of massage is highly beneficial in reducing pain, releasing trigger points and muscular restrictions, improving posture and ease of movement, as well as relieving stress.

Shiatsu

A Japanese form of bodywork, Shiatsu utilizes hand pressure through palming and thumbing techniques, as well as passive stretching along energetic pathways called meridians.  It promotes self-healing and the flow of Chi (energy) by stimulating the Yin and Yang meridians and traditional acupuncture points that are linked to vital organs in the body.  Shiatsu is excellent for pain relief and a strengthening of the body’s resistance to disease and disorder.  Most Shiatsu sessions take place on the floor with the client fully clothed.  A futon cushion and pillows are used for comfort.  Note:  It is important to wear loose, comfortable clothing in order to allow ease of movement during stretching.

Prenatal Massage

This form of massage eases the expectant mother of anxiety and stress during a time of transition.  Side-lying techniques with pillow props are utilized to allow for ease and comfort during the session time.  Special techniques are used for all three trimesters to ensure the well-being of both mother and baby. The goal of prenatal massage is to provide relaxation, lessen physical and mental stress and help relieve the mother of the physical discomfort commonly associated with pregnancy.  Note:  It is recommended to delay receiving massage in any trimester if you are experiencing pregnancy related nausea, as it may exacerbate your symptoms.
