Recipe: GORP trail mix

Heading out for a walk in the woods this fall? Pack up some gorp to keep you energized! The word gorp, a term for trail mix often used by hikers, is typically said to be an acronym for “good old raisins and peanuts,” or its common ingredients “granola, oats, raisins, peanuts,” although the mix may contain M&Ms and other nuts rather than oats and granola.

Here are two versions you can try. A not-so-healthy version that would be a fun Halloween treat for kids, and a healthy adult version.

KIDS HALLOWEEN GORP

INGREDIENTS

1 bag (16 oz.) candy corn
1 bag (16 oz.) pretzel nuggets
1 package (15 oz.) dried banana chips or dried apple slices
1 box (12 oz.) caramel popcorn and peanuts
1 cup gummy worm candies
1 cup sesame sticks
1 cup raisins

DIRECTIONS

Mix together and Enjoy! From Betty Crocker
ADULT GORP

3/4 cup raw cashews
5 raw Brazil nuts, rough chopped
2/3 cup raw pumpkin seeds
1/3 cup raw sunflower seeds
2/3 cup air popped popcorn (no oil or salt added)
2 Tbsp. unsweetened dried cranberries, chopped
1/2 cup chocolate or carob chips

DIRECTIONS
